Neighborhood residents with dogs of all shapes and sizes are eligible for membership to the dog run. We require proof of DA2PP (Canine Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza), Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations, as well as a New York City dog license.
The membership fee is $80 per dog. Seniors (62 or older) may pay $40 per dog.
No, we do not accept paper applications or payment by check. Please submit applications via the website and pay the membership fee by credit card at that time.
You can expect to hear from a volunteer about the status of your application in 1-2 weeks. While we try our best to approve applications quickly, we are a volunteer-run organization and appreciate your patience.
Yes, all new members must attend a 15 minute orientation before using the run. A volunteer will reach out to schedule your orientation when your application is approved. Please note dogs are not allowed at orientation.
Members are responsible for keeping the run clean and safe, including taking out the trash, sweeping leaves, shoveling snow, and bringing water to the run in the winter.
The run is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Out of respect for our neighbors, we ask members to keep it quiet between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.
Members may invoke the “15 minute rule” as they approach the run if there is a dog inside that your dog doesn’t get along with. Simply wave to the dog’s owner and ask them to abide by the rule, which means they will wrap up their play within 15 minutes and leave, at which point you can enter the run.
Membership fees are due annually in the spring. Renewing members must pay the renewal fee regardless of when they joined.
Please submit a new membership application via the website. A volunteer will reach out to arrange a time for you to pick up a key. You do not need to attend another orientation.
People listed on your membership application who have attended an orientation may bring your dog to the run. If you would like to add someone to your membership, email mhdra@mercerhoustondogrun.org to arrange an orientation.
The run is a members only organization to ensure its safety and cleanliness. We rely on our members to communicate kindly with each other, resolve any issues with understanding and respect, and all do our part to maintain the run.
